accessibility

The development of the Web and the generalisation of the Internet now make it possible for people with serious vision handicaps to access a wealth of information and services that were previously unavailable to them.

Contrary to what is often assumed, partially-sighted and even blind people can access information technology and therefore the Internet by using either enlarging software programs or technologies that synthesise the spoken word with a Braille display.

The French-speaking Community of Belgium has decided to grant special importance to the accessibility of the portal and of its Web sites to people with visual disabilities. Measures are going to be undertaken with the objective of making the majority of the public Web sites of the French-speaking Community accessible.
